Animals and Vacant Homes

Several years ago I spoke with a friend who is homeowner claims adjuster. He told me a claims story that turned my stomach.

Someone had moved out of a rental home without informing the property owner.

Unfortunately, they left a dog inside. In Arizona. With no air conditioning.

This dog had literally destroyed the inside of that place - walls, carpet, cabinets. There was no food or water left and it was trapped inside, alone and hungry.

The dog died inside that vacant home. Starved to death. And as the claims adjuster approached the home he said the smell was unbearable.

If a home becomes vacant in your area spend a moment and see if you can tell whether an animal has been left behind. It's the humane thing to do.
